About This Project

Being an event planner and then planning my own wedding was really interesting. The fact that I knew how much things cost, the time it takes, all the logistics required, it’s a big job! Knowing this, our goal was to keep everything really simple while throwing an epic party for our guests. I think we nailed it!


What I loved about our day


The venue: We wanted to get married somewhere local, in the trees, and not too flashy. I had been on a primary school camp at Aongatete Lodge and always remembered the venue. It was the only venue we looked at, it was perfect and they were so flexible with any ideas we came up with.


Circle ceremony: I am super stoked we had our guests stand in a circle for the ceremony. With 140 guests, this made it so much more intimate and we could look around at all our friends and family.


Dress up box: We had a couple of suitcases packed full of funny hats, feather boas, funky glasses + scarfs for guests to put on when they went down to the dance floor area after dinner. This worked so much better than I had ever imagined, so much so, the groomsmen got dressed up for dinner.


The band: Shy & Retiring Co. are awesome! They came highly recommended to us, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a wedding band. Get in quick as they book up fast.
